5.14 SEALING THE SIDELAP OF A GENERAL STEEL BUILDING

Apply the sidelap tape sealant to the weather side edge of the steel buildings lower panel’s major rib as shown. The tape sealant should only be applied to clean, dry surfaces. With the release paper in place, press firmly along the length of the sealant to insure proper adhesion. In removing the protective paper from the tape sealant, care should be taken not to pull the tape sealant away from the panel. Install the adjoining panel positioning the overlapping rib with care. Drill, at the center of the clearance holes in the overlapping panel, 1/8“ pilot holes for the lap fasteners. Stitch the lap with the No. 14 self-tapping fasteners supplied with the job. Never allow the sealant to be placed in other locations.
