At General Steel Corporation, we have been involved some really interesting projects. Here is a good little story about how we were able to put a building in one of the most inhospitable places on Earth, Siberia.
It was in May of 2010, when we were contacted by one of the top gold mining companies in the world. They needed a new custom building at one of their main headquarters in Pevek, Russia. They were in desperate need of some help as they hadn’t been able to find a company who felt they would be able to engineer a building for their weather conditions and they were up against a huge time crunch. According to their plant manager, they had contacted many companies they found listed on the internet, but none of these so-called “leading steel building companies” would commit to helping them with the building needed. These companies were worried about the environmental loads that the building would have to withstand, and were not confident they would be able to meet their timeframes. I was told that if they were not able to get a building designed, fabricated and shipped in the next couple of months, the waters to the site would freeze over and they would not have anywhere to store their huge emergency vehicles as well as a place to clear customs on all their incoming shipments. This would cause a huge problem for the company and their base of operations.
I worked immediately by satellite phone with their managerial staff and agreed that General Steel Corporation would be able to not only engineer a building for their weather conditions, but we could also meet their timelines. You see, General Steel Corporation has done more than 25,000 projects in 27 different countries and we have never lost a building due to any environmental circumstance. We have even put buildings on large barges that are stationed in the Bering Sea. We were well aware of the snow and wind that these structures would have to withstand and were more than able to meet the challenge. It took about 2 weeks of conference calls with out Project Coordinators, Designers, and their staff, but we were able to get a building designed to meet their needs.
This is yet another story of one of the world’s largest corporations choosing General Steel Corporation for their building needs. Not everyone has the extreme requirements that are needed to meet the challenges of Siberia, but it’s good to know that when your project is important and needs quality, General Steel is there. After all, you really do get what you pay for and there’s no reason to buy less than buy less than General Steel.
