As these buildings were being manufactured and sold after WWII they were known for having the benefit of being inexpensive to make and being assembled rapidly at the work site. However, no advancements had yet been made on their exterior look. At that time, pre-engineered buildings still had visually unappealing metal exteriors. However, the buyers of these structures were not so concerned about what the outer shell looked like as much as the overall benefit they would provide (i.e., protecting personnel, equipment, and inventory). Another distinguishing characteristic of these buildings was their roofs. A traditional four on twelve roof pitch was used with this second group of pre-engineered steel structure system approach. Unfortunately, this second generation of metal buildings was unable to deliver the kind of quality and protection people were expecting.
